'Venturing' with friends

Today I had the pleasure of spending time with some very special women. We have established a tradition of spending the last Saturday in October together attending Village Venture in Claremont. We started the day out having breakfast together and received the happy news that Tambi is expecting her first bundle of joy. The rest of the day was spent shopping, chatting, lunching, shopping, chatting, snacking . . . I feel so lucky to have such wonderful women in my life. They are all special in their own way. Here's to many more years of 'venturing' with friends.

Friday Night Lights

This year my son, Jeffrey, is playing football. I have been very anxious and like most 'moms' ( it has to be a 'mom' thing) I pray each week that he comes out of the games safe and sound. I must admit that I am also very proud to watch him play. He is trying so very hard and each time he goes out on the field I can see him giving his best to the game and his team mates. This evening he got to play a 'little' extra ( we were winning by 28 points). He made a few tackles and we actually got to hear his name on the loud speaker. We cheered as loud as we could. After the game he came out of the locker room. As usual, he gave me a hug and whispered in my ear, "I heard you all cheering for me - thanks. You guys were really loud." I am hoping that one of these days he realizes that his father and I have been cheering for him before he ever started playing football. Sometimes they were silent cheers, but cheers none the less.

The flag is up and they're off . . .

This week our family lost a beloved family member. My husbands father, Jeff senior, passed away on Friday June 11, 2008. He was a simple man who loved his children and always did the best he knew how. His sense of humor was as sharp as ever up until his last days and I will always remember how he used the "zip it" sign when he heard my M-I-L walk by his room and make a comment. He did this while balancing a bowl of rainbow sherbut on is chest. He was surrounded by his family during his last hours and we gain comfort knowing he left this earth on "his terms" . We have been planning his memorial service this week and have been sharing fond memories of good times spent with him. He was an avid horseman - the track horses - and spent many afternoons at the race track, studying the race books in hopes of picking a "winner." He enjoyed spending time with his children and grand children and on many occasons, when he thought no one was looking he would tuck a couple of dollars into one of his grandchildrens small hands and tell them to go and buy some candy or 'something.' His presence, humor and kind heart will be dearly missed.

This might come as a shock . . .

For those of you who know me you might have to take a double look to make sure it is actually me, yes moi, who is actually writing a blog. All I can say and I am sure many of you are thinking it - its about time. Yes. Its about time that I share the comings and goings, the good and the bad, the beautiful, and sometimes the ugly events and happenings in my life. Many of you know that I have a difficult time even charging, finding and entering contact numbers into my cell phone and that this might seem a monumental task. However I am up for the challenge. Enjoy the ride! (It took me an hour and a half just to get this far in the blog setup. Can you imagine how long it is going to take me to add a picture!)
